Worms for Android [Game]
The original Worms by Electronic Arts is still one of the best games on Android and something I absolutely love. Worms is a turn based strategy game which will keep you hooked on for hours, and its only $1.09 on the Android market.
Once you launch the game, the first thing you should probably do is open the Help section and swallow it all. I tried directly launching a new game, but it can get confusing that way.
A trip to the help section later, I launched a new match and got one with it. Worms takes place on a fictional world, with varying terrain at the bottom of which is a sea. There are 2 or more teams, one of which is yours, and the object is to eliminate the other team.
You do this by moving your “worms” across the map and firing at enemies with an assortment of weapons such as bazookas, grenades and missiles. The bazooka, as the basic weapon can be used limitless number of times, other weapons have a fixed ammo since they are a lot more powerful and can change the game if played with artfully.
You can move worms, by tap and holding on the side of the screen, a single tap makes the worm jump and a double tap, makes him do a backflip. These are the basic controls you’ll be using to move your worms, up, down and across the stage. Once you are positioned properly, tap and hold the crosshair, move it in the direction of your target and tap and hold the fire button. You can tap longer to change the velocity at which the weapon Is fired, which affects distance and damage. You can hack away at enemies this way, attacking them directly, or use other strategies. I once launched a missile at a ledge, it exploded and the worm dropped below into the sea and died immediately.
That’s basically how the game works, the controls will be hard to get used to at first, and It will take time getting used to the weapons aswell and learning what each of them does, but once you get used to it, Worms is great fun and a joy to have. The strategy element of the game works great, and there is a lot of freedom as to how you approach the game and what strategies you use to win. Its very much a proper strategy game and you can get into some serious competition here.
Speaking of competition, the game also has a multiplayer mode. You can play with an additional 3 friends on the same device and since its turn based, the experience isn’t that bad, though it would be good to see a multiplayer mode for playing on Wifi as it would make things easier. Even then the multiplayer mode works just as It should and is very good.
To finish off, you should definitely get this game if you are a strategy fan and for $1 the game is truly magnificent.
