Twitter is only one of the more than 1000 social networking websites in the market. There might even be more, but Twitter is one of the more popular ones that fans of the site even call the activity of going to the website as Twittering or Tweeting. It has become as common as brushing your teeth.

Basically, twitter is following a platform that can be categorized under micro-blogging. You become a member of the site so you can view other accounts, and in turn other people register so they can “follow” other people, you included. When you log into your Twitter account, you will find a window on the homepage where you can type your “tweets” or little messages that other people can view when they visit your site. You can type as many as 140 characters. When someone online updates their tweets, then you can view those, too. It is common for fans to post lots of messages everyday, there are those who are constantly online to follow the tweets of their contacts who are also online. It’s like chatting, but with a larger and more diversely connected group. Imagine what coverage you can get if you use that for marketing!

Twitter can also be accessed through internet enabled phones. So even people on mobile receive tweets from their contacts. The phone receives the tweets the same way they receive text messages. It is that easy.

While many people like this website because they can use it to chat with friends, many capitalists and marketers use the site to conduct business and pitching sales. And if you are thinking if you could; yes, you definitely could. As long as you do not blatantly advertise the product, you will fine.

What you can do to effectively use it for advertisement is to post links and other resources. These links can be links to your personal sales website or the websites of your affiliates. Or if you want to do some direct marketing, Twitter has a Direct Message feature that allows you to target a tweet to one person only.

There are many ways that you earn by using Twitter:

1. Headhunters post the venue of an event that they are hosting to get more people to go. Many people will just eat up the opportunity to actually meet the people that they are chatting with on Twitter, provided they are in a nearby area.

As people visit the event, you already cover first base. All you have to do is to gather them up and give them your name or email for your referral commission. Make sure you sent a Thank You tweet after the event!

2. You can also tweet about some product launches and discount packages that your company has. Do not make it too blatant. Make it sound like you are just telling them about it. Twitter is not really the best place to make the actual sales pitch. What you can do is to make them know you exist and have them take interest in your company.

Happy Tweeting!
