Pixlr-O-Matic for Android – Lets you add special effects to your photos
Pixlr-O-Matic is another photography geared app and one of the many that lets you add special effects to your photos and then choose to upload it online similar to Instagram for iOS.
The app is free on the Android market and once you load It up, you’ll come to the main Pixlr-o-matic Screen. The developers have kept it simple and easy to use so there are only two options here, take a picture or select one from your SD card. After you’ve done that is where Pixlr-O-Matic stands out.
You can edit pictures in 3 ways, add filters, lens effects and borders. A lot of other applications out there will do this but Pixlr-O-Matic has a huge number of options to choose from, specifically 25 filter options, 30 lens options and 31 borders. We tried the app used one of the default images and edited it and here’s the image below:
That’s with the Greg filter, kryptonite lens effect and Dirt1 border. One thing to keep in mind is that in the filters category, original names are not used and instead you have filters named like Greg and Melissa. Can’t say why they did this but It could be so that people can more easily remember which filters they like and use frequently since real names which we are used to should be easier to understand.
Now that the image editing part is done with, we’ll come to the sharing options. Once you’re done with a picture, you have 3 options, save the image to SD card in small, medium and large file sizes, upload to Pixlr-O-Matic’s own file sharing site and the third “Share” option lets you upload your picture to Social networks. One thing to keep In mind here is that the app does not allow you to add your Tumblr/Facebook/Flickr account by default, when you use the share option, you’ll be uploading the image to another applicating ON your phone. E.g If I need to upload a photo to Dropbox, I must have the Dropx app installed through which Pixlr-O-Matic will share the image.
That’s the only bad side to the app though and its not really that big of an inconvenience since you probably will have your favorite social networking apps installed anyway. Overall the app works great, there is a huge amount of variety in what you can do with a picture, sharing options are “good” and the interface is splendid.
