Over 300,000 Google Android Gets Activated Each Day
Android was in news when Eric Schmidt revealed in August that 200,000 Android phones are being activated every day. He further said this at the Techonomy conference in Lake Tahoe. Now, just a few months on, Google has said they’re activating 300,000 Android devices per day.
Andy Rubin, Vice President of Engineering at Google, sent out a tweet at about 11:37 PM ET saying,
There are over 300,000 Android phones activated each day
This was probably a response to Apple, during their September 1st event, when they claimed that the iPhone was having 230,000 activations per day.
This statement has also been seconded by the research conducted by research company comScore. The research company identified in its latest smartphone usage report, shows Google’s mobile OS skyrocketing in usage, up to 23.5 percent since July 2010.
The research also indicated that by the end of 2010, it’s likely that Android will have surpassed the iPhone in U.S. market share, becoming the second-most popular smartphone platform, and on its way to becoming No. 1 sometime next year.
ComScore also identified that 60.7 million people in the U.S. owned Smartphone in October, a 14 percent increase from the previous quarter. The increasing popularity of the Android has seen the diministion of Research in Motion’s (RIM) BlackBerry, from 39.3 percent to 35.8 percent in the quarter.
