Nokia Announces Windows Phone 8 Handsets in an Event in New York
The new Lumia handsets from Nokia will now run on Windows Phone 8, confirms the Finnish company at a New York event. Nokia will be the first launch phones that will use Windows Phone 8, but other players like HTC, Samsung and Acer are also gearing up with new handsets that will use the latest Windows Phone platform.
It was a joint event held by Nokia and Microsoft to unveil the Lumia 820 and 920. These are first Smartphones to use Windows 8 platform and expected to work well for both the companies that are going through a critical time.
Jo Harlow, Nokia Smartphone Head commented after the event regarding the availability of the device. They are planning to make the phone available for the fourth quarter of this year and that could be anytime from October. Reports suggest that they will put these phones up for sale after the arrival of iPhone 5, which is rumored to arrive in the late September.
Some experts also believe that it is a great opportunity for Microsoft and Nokia to exploit the loopholes of Samsung’s Android devices following their dispute of patent with Apple. However, Nokia also needs to make an effort to make people believe that their WP8 devices will function better than iOS or Android experiences.
Only time will tell whether Nokia gets benefited because of the Apple v Samsung patent battle. However, many enthusiasts believe that the outcome of these new Windows Phone 8 powered Lumia phones is going to be positive.
