MilTube, the US Army’s New YouTube
A new video sharing website, MilTube, has been launched by the United States Army. This video sharing website is accessible only behind its firewall. This offers the US Army troops a secure alternative to YouTube.
Justin Filler, deputy director of the MilTech Solutions Office, the Army organization in charge of MilSuite said
Video is an extremely powerful tool for storytelling and sharing information among personnel’. He added ‘MilTube provides a secure, internal environment for those connections to take place across the Armed Services
MilTube is the latest addition to the MilSuite, a pack of Web 2.0 sharing and collaboration solutions. MilSuite, which has over 88,500, includes other networking tools including milBook, milWiki and milBlog that are used by the Department of Defense. The MilSuite is similar to other networking tools only behind firewall. The firewall helps users from all branches and organizations to share official unclassified internal information safely.
Todd Miller, an Army contractor supporting MilSuite said
People across the DoD are collaborating on various programs and efforts in ways that were not possible before MilSuite’. He added ‘We do our part by delivering the new features users are looking for, including video capability. We look forward to seeing how our users bring knowledge to the community through a completely different medium
