MetroTwit has been my go-to twitter client long before the launch of Windows 8 to the public. The modern version of the app or the metro version for windows 8 is very akin to the desktop counterpart of the app with the exclusion of several customization options. Despite that the MetroTwit app for Windows 8 is a very appropriate execution well suited for the metro UI and the touch interface. With the new MetroTwit app, setting up columns is a walk in the park.
Following, favouriting, retweeting are all easily available either by tapping a tweet or by viewing the entire tweet on your screen. Sending out tweets is easy and fun. MetroTwit supports attaching photos and geo-tagging as well. The features I found missing was a the feature to shrink the links and options to schedule tweets in advance.
The features of MetroTwit are enumerated under,
- Track your Twitter feeds with interactive tiles
- Pin multiple columns on the homescreen
- Simple tweet, reply or retweet
- Search Twitter by keyword or hashtagsView lists, saved searches, trending topics
- Fully functional snap view for quick access to tweets
MetroTwit is available both free as well as for a justified $4.99. The free version is ad supported and only allows a single account to be configured. The Benjamin’s will get rid of the ads and add multi user support.
Overall MetroTwit is a great take on metro UI and is plentiful for individual users. However, power users of twitter will miss link shortening and other customization settings. What they will cherish though is the best touch friendly twitter experience that they won’t easily give up on once they use it.
