Meebo to Launch ‘Websites Check-in’
Meebo will launch the Meebo MiniBar in alpha on November 16, 2010. MiniBar will help users chat with their friends from various websites or instant messaging services, like they can with the regular Meebo bar or on the homepage. Meaning, if you check in to Starbucks through Foursquare or Facebook Places, you will also be able to check-in at a Web site or blog. When you, as a user, visit a website and check in you can see other checked in users and their view their shared content.
Additionally, it will enable you check it to any website and advertise that website as an interesting read to other friends by clicking the ‘Check-in’ button. Likewise, if any of your friends find an interesting site and want to advertise that, they can also check in to the website for all their friends to see.
MiniBar will also enable users to share the ‘check-in’ links on Twitter and Facebook. Though MiniBar will hope to create its own space for sharing content as opposed to using social networking sites.
In this alpha release, Meebo MiniBar will support browsers like Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft Internet Explorer. However, Meebo will soon start support the product for Apple Safari users as well.
