Update: iPhone 5 set to be announced on October 4th? – Confirmed
Official Invitation – Apple’s Way

According to AllThingsD ‘sources close to the situation’ say that the iPhone 5 announcement event will be on October 4th 2011. AllThingsD is a reputable blog and are normally right when it comes to thinks like this.
They also have said that the iPhone 5 will be available to buy a few weeks after the upcoming announcement. This would tie in nicely with the leaked release date of October 15th by a France Telecom executive, which we mentioned a week ago.
Another nugget of information that AllThingsD claim to be true is that recently appointed CEO Tim Cook will take charge of the keynote. With the recent resignation of Steve Jobs, Tim Cook was installed as CEO and it looks the iPhone 5 announcement will be his first public appearance.
Cook NEEDS to take charge of the announcement to show that Apple can run and function without Steve Jobs. It will be fitting for Cook to do the keynote as Jobs hand picked him to takeover the CEO role after becoming ill.
Scott Forstall, the chief of the iOS, will be on hand as well as other various Apple executives to show the togetherness in the Apple camp. However Cook will be the one who is scrutinised the most and the pressure will all be on him.
The event finally allow us to see if the predictions, rumours and prototypes were real or whether they were fake. Will the iPhone 5 have a dual core processor to rival HTC and Samsung, will it have a better camera and 1080p video recording? All will be revealed soon!
The iPhone 5 announcement will be watched carefully by rivals Samsung (check out latest in the Apple vs Samsung patent saga). The two electronic giants are currently locked in a legal battle of patents and the copying of ideas.
