Gionee Elife E6: Quick hands on

Gionee Elife E6 as an upcoming handset from Gionee, the makes of Elife E5, the thinnest AMOLED display handset in the market at just 6.2 mm. Evidently our hopes of getting our hands on a sleek and well built smartphone were high and to say the least we were not disappointed. Gionee seems to have done a great job with the Elife E6 as the build quality is great if not top notch. Flat faces and sides rule the E6 design philosophy and the edges are perfectly rounded.

The E6 sports a now common among flagships 5″ Full HD 16:9 display that is gorgeous to look at although the colors take a bluish hue. The viewing angles are great and on the display front atleast, the device goes hand to hand with the behemoths of the industry. Things take a dive when you fire up the device. The Gionee logo and animation at the time of bootup are not very fluid and gives an impression that the device is a mediocre. The back shooter is a 13mp monster and up front is a 5 mp camera. The camera units themselves are decent if not best out there. Power button on the top with 3.5mm audio jack, volume rocker on the right, micro SIM card slot on the left and the loudspeaker grill resides at the bottom. The back face also has an additional microphone for active noise cancellation during phone calls, and the front has the usual bundle of ambient light sensor and proximity sensors.

The Elife E6 is powered by a 1.5GHz quad-core processor and  2GB of RAM. Storage comes courtesy of 32GB internal memory and power comes from a 2,020mAh battery. The absence of an external SD card should not bother the users as 32GB is ample amount of storage. The battery too is non-user replaceable but the end  product feels sturdy.

The Gionee Elife E6 runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean with its proprietary skin called Amigo OS which screams MIUI. On downside is that there are no options to add widgets. Apps are installed page by page and no app drawer is present.

Overall, the E6 has good ergonomics and the build quality is great. Amigo OS can be easily dodged by installing third party launchers like Nova, Apex, ADW, etc.

The Elife E6 will be launched in two color options, a matte black and a glossy white.
