Connectivity Shortcuts for Windows Phone 7
There is no doubt that the UI on Windows Phone 7 is one of the more unique UIs out there. It’s also regarded as the best UI currently in all smartphones. Part of this is due to the strict control Microsoft has over it which is why they don’t allow developers or manufacturers to alter it in anyway. While this is a good policy as a whole, it can however become a hindrance on some occasions. For example there is no way to have a shortcut to Wi-Fi settings to quickly toggle it on/off. Instead you have to go to settings, then Wi-Fi, and then toggle it. Connectivity Shortcuts is a free app that almost completely eliminates this issue.
The application couldn’t be simpler. It’s only 1MB in size and takes a few seconds to download. You can run it through the app drawer. Here you can choose what shortcuts you want on your start screen. Currently it offers WiFi, Bluetooth, Cellular and Airplane mode. Simply select it and a tile will be placed on the main screen that you can then click to quickly go right to the settings menu. It’s extremely useful if you’re the kind of person who toggles cellular data on or off on a regular basis or Wi-Fi data to save battery life and data bills. Hopefully with more updates the developer will provide shortcuts to more settings which will make using the phone even more convenient. Live tiles would also certainly be welcome which would show whether Wi-Fi is on or off. It’s still a new application and as a first attempt it gets the job done. Hopefully with regular updates we’ll be treated to more features.
