For anyone who constantly logs on to the Internet on a daily basis, there is only one plausible phrase that can describe the information highway. In the realm of the World Wide Web, content is king. And this could not be any more true for the Internet marketers and blog owners making their daily living off the Internet.

The fact that there is so much going on all at the same time is the basic byproduct of having a faster information gateway. A faster and more convenient platform that enables us to share information at a speed of light. And this is why we are able to get our hands on everything we need to know at the approximate time we need it.
A snip from wikipedia about saying “Content is King”

The phrase can be interpreted to mean that – without original and desirable content, or consideration for the rights and commercial interests of content creators – any media venture is likely to fail through lack of appealing content, regardless of other design factors.

Content can mean any creative work, such as text, graphics, images or video.

“Content is King” is a current meme when organizing or building a website (although Andrew Odlyzko in “Content is Not King” argues otherwise). Text content is particularly important for search engine placement. Without original text content, most search engines will be unable to match search terms to the content of a site

For bloggers, business owners and Internet marketers alike, content is the driving force that attracts Internet users to what they have to offer on a specific subject. So without content, there can be no traffic, no visitors and no earnings. This is why, as long there are marketers who believe that they can sell things online and there are people who look to the internet for things to buy, there will always be a great demand for original content.

Duplicacy of pages add no real content to the web and do nothing to improve the quality of the search engines output. By offering the same document over and over search engines would offer a horrible product with no variety. For this reason, duplicate pages are often filtered out. This is the exact reason Yahoo! dislikes many affiliate websites.
Duplicacy of content and pages are major cause for search engine optimization.Even if search engines like Google will not always penalizes you for duplicate content, they will still have to choose one of the URLs / pages to show in search results and ignore all other duplicates.

Photo via Sam Ul

If problem is related with WWW-pages and non WWW-pages URLs in the generated XML sitemap will then either be with or without www which may differ from the paths search engines such as Google.
To avoid duplicate content use canonical URL in wordpress.This is the definition given in Google’s Webmaster Central Blog a format that allows you to publicly specify your preferred version of a URL. If your site has identical or vastly similar content that’s accessible through multiple URLs, this format provides you with more control over the URL returned in search results. It also helps to make sure that properties such as link popularity are consolidated to your preferred version.
It is very easy to specify the canonical URL of a page – all you have to do is add this line in the head section…

The purpose of this tag is to prevent the problem of duplicate content.

The best thing about this tag is that all three major search engines(Google, Yahoo and MS Live) support this initiative.
header.php

Go to the theme folder in wordpress(wp-content/themes/
) and open the file header.php in your favorite editor. Now find the line…

and add the following code before that line…

<?php if ( is_singular() ) { ?>
<link rel="canonical" href="<?php the_permalink(); ?>" />
<?php } ?>

Now, it should look something like this…

<?php if ( is_singular() ) { ?> <link rel="canonical" href="<?php the_permalink(); ?>" /> <?php } ?> </head>

That’s it - you are done! Save the file and upload it to your server.

This fix will add the canonical URL tag to all the posts and pages of your blog. If you want to see a blog that have implemented this fix, take a look at the source of this page.
What is a canonical URL?

If you already know you would be surprised at how few webmasters have ever heard of a canonical URL. If you also spend time in Google Groups you will find people scratching their heads and not getting a clear answer as to how to troubleshoot and resolve this troublesome issue in Google.

After the roaring success of iPhone 2.0 last year, Apple is back in action to widen its presence in the smartphone market.

In a hotly-awaited event last night, Apple Inc unveiled the new operating system software, called iPhone OS 3.0. Other than adding new features, Apple has also made up for some of the big misses in the existing model.
So, here’s over to the pluses and minuses of Apple iPhone 3.0 software.
Hits of iPhone3 .0
Hit 1: Upgrade’s free

iPhone users get the new software for free, while iPod Touch users will have to pay $9.95. The operating system runs on the latest version of the iPhone, released last year, as well as the original model.
Apple currently has 25,000 applications in its online iPhone App Store. More than 800 million programmes have been downloaded since July, the company said.
The company has distributed 800,000 iPhone software kits to developers, who write programmes for delivery though the App Store.
Hit 2: Cut-copy-paste Yes, cut-copy-paste is there now! The new software adds this one of the most sorely missed feature in the existing iPhone 2.0.
Apple said the third generation of iPhone software will let users copy information from notes and Web pages, and let people move text between different applications. Users who erroneously paste text can shake the iPhone to get an option to cut it.
Hit 3: Multimedia messaging

Another one from the iPhone wishlist, Apple offers multimedia messaging capability with the new 3.0 software allowing users to send each other photographs from the phone.
Earlier, users could send text messages or snapshots via email only.
Hit 4: Stereo Bluetooth

Another big miss in the current version, Stereo Bluetooth, makes its entry. This means iPhone users will be able to listen to music through wireless headphones now.
iPhone users can also link to other phones via Bluetooth and automatically be connected to wi-fi hotspots. The earlier version didn’t let iPhone sync with Bluetooth stereo or in-car Bluetooth handsfree. It lacked A2DP on Bluetooth. A2DP audio devices, such as stereo Bluetooth headsets, offer better quality audio.
Hit 5: Text messaging

Yes, this too has been added now! The new iPhone version offers text forwarding feature, another sorely missed feature in the previous version. Users will now be able to delete individual messages in a chat thread. Also, with the latest version users will be able to forward meeting invites and contacts.
The earlier version didn’t let users forward a text message. Users could only send text messages or snapshots via email.
Hit 6: GPS

The iPhone will now become a full-fledged GPS device with iPhone 3.0. The new upgrade will enable users to receive turn-by-turn instructions for driving similar to those in use on GPS navigation devices. The feature will be available through apps.
Hit 7: Shake to shuffle songs

The new iPhone software comes with shake-to-shuffle-songs capability. The feature was first introduced in the revamped iPod Nano. Another addition is voice memo application; a function that will let the iPhone work with Bluetooth headphones and speakers — a boon for people who want more options to play music stored on their iPhones.
Hit 8: Landscape keyboard and Push notification

Another big miss in iPhone 2.0, makes its presence with upgrade. Users will now be able to read and compose email and text messages in landscape mode.
The next-generation iPhone operating system will enable so-called push notification, allowing developers to build applications that can provide automatic alerts of items such as sports results or the arrival of an instant message. The alerts would show up automatically even if the user is in another application.
It will also allow developers to offer subscriptions and sell content within their applications that have items for sale within them, such as electronic books or additional levels of a video game. And developers will be able to access the music within users’ iPhone libraries, so songs they own can be included in games, for example.
Hit 9: Search

The company has unveiled a widely anticipated universal search feature called “spotlight,” which can scour key applications on the phone such as email and iPod.
The feature will let users hunt for information in multiple applications at once, including notes, calendar and iTunes.
Miss of iPhone 3.0
Miss 1: Video recording

There were speculations for video recording feature, however, Apple again disappointed. This is especially a dampener since video recording feature is today found in most cell phones, even those at the lower end.
Also, most of Apple’s rivals in the cell phone space like Nokia, Sony Ericsson and Samsung are offering higher version cameras.
Miss 2: Flash

Apple dogged this topic by saying they had no announcements today. Earlier, Adobe said it is working on iPhone Flash, but sadly for now there is no support for Adobe Flash in the upcoming iPhone model.
Currently, when users browse through Web pages with Adobe Flash it displays empty spaces with missing icons. Earlier Apple claimed that Flash would run too slowly on the iPhone.
Miss 3: Voice dialing

The glaring miss in the latest upgrade is lack of voice dialing feature. It lacks support for voice-recognition to let users dial verbally.
However, it is expected that voice memos and other audio recording will also be possible with the new software which will be officially released in summer.

TwitteReader is a new and free service which turns Twitter into something resembling Google ReaderThis web app is basically a Google Reader clone, except instead of managing general RSS feeds, it manages your Twitter account.Just like Google Reader and Gmail, you can move up and down the list with the same J and K keyboard shortcuts. You can also star items, which adds them to your Twitter favorites list. The application keeps track of what you’ve read and what you haven’t, which, depending on how many people you’re following, could be useful. If a system like Google Reader’s trends were to be applied to this you could see which people’s updates you’re not reading and cut them out of your followers list.

As you can see in the screenshot above, the interface is very clean (some would say sparse). It certainly does feel a lot like Google Reader, and supports using the J & K keys for moving up and down. It loads 20 tweets per screen (same as twitter.com) but rather than display the entire tweet, it just shows the first line of each tweet. This makes the display nice and compact, but given how short tweets are, it feels silly having to open each one to get another line of content. The good news is that tweets open automatically when you select them, so there’s no additional mouse clicks. Having them closed by default just inhibits fast scanning.
You can mark tweets as favorites and TwitteReader keeps track of what you’ve read and what you haven’t (but there’s no way to hide tweets you’ve read, leaving you only unread tweets to scan). You can mark a tweet as unread if you like. Every tweet has kind of a time stamp (day of the week and month, as of GMT time) but not the “2 hours ago from web” info nor the “nor the “in reply to” link that you’d get on twitter.com.
As an app it’s a nice start, but I’d like to see some additional features. First, the option to “expand all” tweets would be very welcome, as would a setting to load more than 20 tweets per page. Being able to fly down a page of open tweets via keystrokes, having them marked as read as I went, would be a very nice user experience, I think. And the “in reply to” information is pretty critical for those of us who use Twitter to carry on conversations with friends. It can often be tough to puzzle out what someone is replying to when each tweet in a conversation can be posted hours apart. Lastly, it’d be nice to be able to hide all read tweets, or to show only Favorite tweets. Basically some way to tag a tweet to “save for later” while you’re scanning.

I feel it’s important to emphasize again that this is a beta release and the developer seems to be actively working on the app, so don’t consider this a review, but rather a first look at a product still in development. As it stands today, TwitteReader feels like the start of something really nice.

Image by hongxing128 via Flickr

SEO – Search engine optimisation is quite common word in the internet.If you want optimum concentration for your website it is important to draw customers to your site. Studies have shown that if you use a combination of words you are more likely to have people find you. A keyword is very helpful when it is used in a trio or foursome combination. If you have a specific product, you want to narrow the search to your site. When you use a keyword phrase you are bettering the odds in your favor that your site will be noticed.

If you are looking for a new cat litter you wouldn’t just type in “cats” as your keyword. You would initiate the search engine optimisation using at least two keywords “cat litter”. However, if you wanted a specific brand of cat litter you would type in “VIC cat litter”. This would narrow your search. Your customers are going to use this same approach. Wouldn’t it be to your benefit to use this same type of phrasing when writing about your product?

If you aren’t going into detail, your site will be thrown in with the multitudes and won’t have a very high ranking. If you are fortunate to achieve a fairly good ranking with just one or two keywords you still probably won’t actually produce buyers. They are more likely just looking without much intention of making a purchase.

The more information you can pass on in your three or four word phrase the better off your business will be. When the large web crawlers search out the products you want them to find you. When you write your articles you should try to achieve a fairly high penetration rate of your keyword phrase or phrases. There are sites devoted to helping writers find keyword phrases to enhance their marketing. The best idea for search engine optimisation would be to include as many keywords and keyword phrases as you can.
