Overview:
Even though Windows Phone by default comes with a pretty decent level of social network integration, it does however lack quite a few features, as you would expect from an app that’s integrated by default. There aren’t a lot of applications in the marketplace yet, and even few for Twitter. Filter good ones from those and you’re barely left with any good quality app to speak off. Fortunately for us, Birdsong attempts to fill in this gap by offering a Twitter app that might just be the best social networking app on Windows Phone yet.

Upon first launch it will, as all applications need to, ask you to authenticate the application from Twitter. The process takes only about a minute after which you can log into your account and start using the app.
Birdsong was recently updated to support new features present in Mango update.
Review and Conclusion:
The app launches extremely quickly in about a second or two. Upon launch you’ll see perhaps the best use of Metro UI of any application yet. You get your timeline, mentions and messages as default columns. You can swipe between them. Swiping is extremely smooth, there is literally no lag what so ever and data loading takes a very short amount of time as well. Scrolling through long lists is also extremely smooth, it’s very responsive and there is no sluggishness seen anywhere. On top of every column there’s a counter showing the number of new tweets since you last opened the application. You can add or remove any column you like from the settings. Here you can adjust a variety of things from font size, default browser, location tracking etc. Bird song supports live tile and you can set what the live tile shows i.e. either mentions, new messages, new tweets or all of the above. The application also pulls in your favorite tweets and you can view those as well. In addition you can view your followers or whom you’re following. You can also setup multiple Twitter accounts. It can geo-tag your tweets and has Bing Maps integration. And since this is a Mango app, it means it supports background running as well. You can simple go back to where you were in the application by using the task manager.
The app is for 0.99$ with a free trial. The trial wont let you tweet but you can use the rest of the application. 0.99$ is an incredible price for an incredible application. Birdsong is one of those few applications that fully utilize the power of Mango and the result is that this is hands down the best Twitter app, perhaps maybe on any platform!
