Gartner a research firm has tried to predict and project the growth of tablets in general, and particularly for iPads and Androids. Their research revealed that 2011 will see over 70 million tablets being sold. Additionally it projected that in the next year (2012) over 108 million tablets will be sold. This is a great jump from the 17.6 million tablets sold in all of 2010.

The research also claimed that Apples share in the market will see a decline by the year 2015. The current Apple share is said to be 69% in this year and research suggests that it will go down to 47% in 2015. While the predictions are that Google’s share will increase from 20% in this year to 39% in the year 2015. The reason for the Google Android growth will probably be the only tablet that can be used by developers that do not have their own operating system.
Gartner’s prediction on Motion’s QNX platforms is that its tablet (that is yet to be launched this year) will also get a market share and will be positioned at No.3 this year with a market share of 5.6%. It has projected that this platforms share will probably be 10% in 2015.
