Amazon Kindle Fire specs and price
Amazon today released the latest addition to their Kindle range, the touch screen Amazon Kindle Fire. The Fire is one of very few colour tablets designed mainly for e-reading and eBooks. The previous Kindle was black and white which made reading magazines difficult on the device. In an effort to boost the popularity the Kindle Fire has a 7 inch in-plane switching display with full colour abilities.
The Kindle Fire is joining an increasingly popular tablet market, currently dominated by Apple’s iPad. The device will cost $199 and will be released in the US on the 15th November. The global prices and release dates have not yet been announced.
The Kindle Fire is significantly cheaper than tablets by Samsung, Apple and Motorola. It also undercuts the Nook Colour, made by US book comapny Barnes & Noble. The Nook Colour is currently the main colour e-reading device available on the mass market. By undercutting them Amazon hopes to establish a large market share in the market as well as rivaling tablet computers.
Kindle Fire specifications:
- 7 inch IPS display
- 1024 x 600 resolution
- 8GB internal storage
- A dual core processor
- Google Android operating system, customised for the Kindle
- Weighs: 413g
With a dual core processor the technology within the Kindle Fire is technologically up to date and will provide fast loading times.
The customised Google Android operating system will be interesting, with the Kindle Fire expected to be quite different visually to other devices running Google Android.
The Amazon Kindle Touch was also announced, available with and without 3G capabilities, $149 with 3G and $99 without. The Kindle Touch has not got any buttons and has a lighter, smaller body than the Kindle. The 3G technology will be free, not monthly fee, this is quite impressive and incredibly useful when you are out and about. The Kindle Touch has an e-ink screen, compared to the LCD of the Kindle Fire.
The new look Amazon kindle has been reduced to just $79 or £89, and will ship the next week from that price.
